Dubai is one of the most international markets I work with, and it behaves differently from the rest of the Gulf. This page explains how buyers there research and decide, what to localise, how enquiries and WhatsApp follow-up should work, and how remote collaboration from India fits a one and a half hour time difference.

A market made of many audiences

Dubai is not one audience. A property buyer, a corporate procurement manager, a tourist, a long-term resident from South Asia and an Arabic-speaking family may all be your customers, and they search, read and trust differently. English works as the common language of business, but Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog and other languages matter for specific segments. The first thing I ask is which of these you really want, because trying to speak to all of them equally usually fails.

This is why I push clients to split campaigns by customer type rather than by product. Separate messages, landing pages and follow-up for investors, residents and corporate buyers are easier to measure and easier for a sales team to handle than one broad funnel.

How people search, scroll and message

Google is the main search engine, and Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and LinkedIn all carry real weight depending on the audience. WhatsApp is the default channel for business conversations, from restaurant bookings to property viewings, so the speed and quality of your WhatsApp replies often decides whether a lead becomes a customer. Phone calls also remain important, particularly in property, healthcare and services.

Local marketplaces and portals shape several categories. Property has its own dedicated portals, food delivery and general retail have regional platforms, and classifieds are active too. A good plan decides which of these you must be on, which you can ignore, and what you will do on your own website that those platforms do not allow.

Sectors and the problem each one has

Real estate has high enquiry volume and low enquiry quality, so the work is qualification: who is a buyer, who is an agent, who is a browser. Hospitality and retail depend on seasonality and events, and often run promotions on many channels without clear measurement. Financial services, healthcare and professional services need trust signals and licensing information shown clearly.

Trading and logistics firms often have strong relationships but weak online presence, which hurts when a new buyer checks them out. Start-ups and free-zone companies face the opposite: a nice website and few repeat customers. In each case I link the campaign to CRM stages, so you know which enquiries became conversations. See also the Performance Marketing and CRM and Custom Software service pages.

Every sector also has its own proof requirements. A clinic needs credentials and clear service descriptions; a developer needs project history and handover details; a consultancy needs named experts and examples of approach. I list these requirements with you before design starts, so the pages are built around evidence a sceptical buyer will look for.

What needs localising

Language is the first decision: English only, or English and Arabic with right-to-left layouts. Pricing is normally in dirhams, though international buyers may expect a comparison. Trust signals matter, including licence numbers, regulator names for regulated sectors, real office addresses and WhatsApp numbers that actually respond. Check current rules on promotional content, influencer disclosure and data protection with your adviser before launching, as they change.

Imagery and tone deserve care. Creative that works in a Western market can feel wrong when it ignores local norms, particularly during Ramadan, when the whole rhythm of the day, ad timing and tone of offers changes. I ask for a local reviewer for anything sensitive, and I plan campaign calendars around Ramadan, Eid, the summer travel lull and the busier autumn and winter season.

Working across a 90-minute gap

Dubai is one and a half hours behind India all year, since the UAE does not use daylight saving. Nine in the morning in Dubai is half past ten for me, and six in the evening is half past seven. That means almost your entire working day overlaps with mine, which makes it one of the easiest time zones for me to work with.

The UAE working week is generally Monday to Friday, with Friday often shorter, and weekends on Saturday and Sunday, so it lines up closely with mine. I can take calls at short notice, and we can use a shared channel for quick questions and a weekly structured call for decisions. For international clients the pricing is flat USD, with the scope written down first.

The first 30 to 60 days

I begin with the lead path, not the advert. I look at how an enquiry arrives, who answers, how quickly, what is said and how it is recorded. If the response process is weak, extra advertising spend only makes that weakness more expensive. Then I define what a qualified lead is for your business, and set up tracking so we can see which source produces them.

After that I build or fix the landing pages, prepare creative for each audience, and run a controlled test. By days 45 to 60 we should have a first view of cost per qualified conversation, not just cost per lead, plus a list of what to stop. The speed depends on your sales team's willingness to log outcomes, which is always the real bottleneck.

Mistakes common in Dubai

Counting raw leads is the biggest one. Another is running one English-language campaign for every audience. Another is assuming that a good-looking site will carry trust, when buyers check licences, reviews and real people. A fourth is leaving WhatsApp unmanaged, with messages answered by whoever is free, hours later, in no consistent way.

Foreign brands entering the market also underestimate how crowded it is. Many sellers fight for the same attention, so the offer needs a clear reason to choose you, not just a good logo and discount.

A last mistake is copying what a competitor seems to be doing. You see their adverts but not their margins, their lead quality or what their sales team closes. Build your plan from your own numbers, even if the first set is small and imperfect.

Who this is for

I work well with Dubai companies that have a sales team and want the marketing, tracking and follow-up to line up, and with overseas brands that need a market-entry plan without opening a team here. I am not a good fit if you need someone on site every week, or a licensed local promotions agent for events and outdoor media. I will say so plainly.

If you are unsure, the thirty-minute strategy session is a low-risk way to test the fit. We look at your current enquiry path, I tell you where I would start and what I would leave alone, and you decide whether to go further. Nothing in that session commits you to a retainer or a project.
