From the brief to a clear direction.

I can help make your expertise and service information clearer, more accessible and better supported by useful sources, across your website and relevant external references.

Your website, expertise areas and the questions customers ask.

Organised source library with clear authored content documents

THE APPLICATION

Built around the way you work.

This is the broader service. AEO focuses on answering questions clearly, while GEO considers how content can support visibility and citations in generated responses.

Discuss your brief

People now ask questions to assistants and search tools that write an answer, name sources and sometimes recommend businesses directly. Nobody controls those answers. What you can do is make your expertise easy to find, easy to understand and consistent across the web, so that you are a reasonable thing for these systems to cite.

What this is and what it is not

AI search visibility covers how your business appears in AI-generated answers: summaries in search results, chat assistants that browse the web, and tools that compile recommendations. The names AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) are used for parts of it.

It is not a trick. These systems draw on the same open web as traditional search, plus their own training and retrieval methods that change often and are not fully public. I do not claim to know how any one product ranks sources. I work on the things that are sound under any of them: clear content, accurate facts and credible references.

I should be clear about limits. These tools differ in how they pick sources, and they change often. A tactic that appears to work in one product one month may not hold in another. That is why I put weight on fundamentals instead of tricks, and why I treat all claims of guaranteed AI rankings with suspicion.

Think of it as being a reliable source. If a student asked you a question about your field, you would answer clearly, say what you know and what you do not, and point to evidence. Pages written in that spirit serve readers, search engines and AI tools alike, which is why this service builds on solid content work.

Starting with how you are described today

The first step is looking. I ask the questions your customers would ask, across several tools, and note what is said about you and your competitors in general terms, which sources are cited and where information is wrong or missing. Answers vary between tools and between days, so I treat this as a sample, not a measurement.

Mistakes are common: outdated services, wrong locations, mixed-up names, or no mention at all. Each one usually traces back to something findable, such as an old directory entry, a vague page or a gap in your own site. That makes it fixable.

I also compare the answers against what you would want said. Do they describe your services correctly? Do they recommend you for the right situations? Do they cite your own pages, or only third parties? The gaps between what is said and what is true become the work list, ordered by how many customers are likely to see them.

Making your site answerable

Systems that generate answers favour pages that state things plainly. I review your key pages for direct answers near the top, definitions of terms, honest descriptions of who the service suits and does not suit, and sections organised around real questions. This is the same clarity that helps human readers.

FAQ content is useful when it comes from genuine customer questions and gives specific answers. Padding a page with generic questions adds nothing. Evidence also matters: named expertise, stated methods and verifiable detail give a system something worth quoting.

Specifics beat slogans. A page that states the industries you serve, the scope of what you do, how engagements run and what you do not do gives a system accurate material to repeat. A page full of broad promises gives it nothing to quote. I often suggest adding a short, plain summary near the top of key pages, written the way you would explain the service to a new client.

If a person could not quote your page accurately in one sentence, a machine probably cannot either.

Business information that stays consistent

Assistants build a picture of a business from many places. If your name, services, location, founders and descriptions differ across your website, profiles and listings, the picture is muddled. I audit these and create a single reference version of the facts to be used everywhere.

On your own site, structured data and clear about, contact and service pages support this. Off-site, accurate profiles and credible third-party mentions confirm it. The link-building principles from off-page SEO apply here too, with an emphasis on being described correctly, not just linked.

Third-party sources carry weight because they confirm what you say about yourself. Interviews, credible directories, reviews, articles you have contributed and mentions in industry publications all help. They also tend to be what these tools cite when they name a source, so the off-site work and the on-site clarity support each other.

What the work involves

The engagement combines review, content changes and clean-up. I keep a log of the questions tested so that we can revisit them later and see what changed, understanding that the results are noisy.

I prioritise the items by how often your customers are likely to meet them and how easily they can be corrected.

Technical access is a policy decision worth making consciously. Your site settings determine whether various automated crawlers can read your pages, and some businesses block them without realising. Others prefer to restrict them for good reasons. I explain the options and the trade-offs, and the choice remains yours.

I also keep the work proportionate. For a small service business, a handful of clarified pages, a consistent fact sheet and a few corrected listings may be the whole job. For a larger publisher or a company with many products, the programme is bigger and needs ongoing care. The scope follows the size of the problem you actually have.

  • A set of priority customer questions, tested across AI tools and search summaries.
  • A review of key pages for clarity, direct answers and supporting evidence.
  • A fact sheet for your business, and a check of listings and profiles against it.
  • Recommendations for structured data and content that suits the questions asked.
  • Guidance on technical access, including whether AI crawlers are allowed or blocked by your site settings, so the decision is deliberate.

Measurement and honest expectations

There is no reliable single metric for AI visibility yet. Referral traffic from AI tools, branded search trends, enquiries that mention an assistant, and repeated testing of priority questions give partial signals. I report them as what they are.

I cannot promise that a tool will mention you, and anyone who does is guessing. What I can do is reduce the chance of being wrongly described or overlooked because your information was unclear. These tools also reward the same fundamentals as ordinary search, so the work supports SEO strategy rather than replacing it.

Because the tools are new, I suggest a light touch on monitoring: a fixed set of questions re-tested monthly or quarterly, noted in a simple log. Treat movement as a prompt for investigation, not proof. If something changes materially, such as a wrong claim appearing, we trace it to its source and correct it where possible.

Who should start here, and who should not

This work suits businesses that sell expertise or considered services, where customers research before choosing and increasingly ask assistants for help. It suits sites that already have decent content and need it clarified.

If your site has basic crawl problems or very little content, begin with technical SEO or on-page SEO. AI visibility built on a weak base gains little. A strategy session can sort out the order, and the work can be folded into an SEO consulting retainer where that suits.

This service is also a reasonable add-on for a business already investing in search. Much of the groundwork overlaps, so it does not need to be a separate large project. For some clients a few focused fixes, covered in a strategy session, are enough.

WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER

A focused project. Or ongoing support.

Start with a strategy session. We can then agree a project brief, a focused consultation or an ongoing engagement around your priorities.
