This page is about working with Madrid businesses from Delhi NCR: how Spanish buyers tend to research and decide, which platforms matter, what needs localising beyond translation, and how a four-hour time difference works in practice. I do not have a Madrid office, and I will explain what remote collaboration looks like instead.
How Spanish buyers research before they enquire
Most purchase journeys in Spain still begin with a Google search, and for service businesses the search often happens on a phone. People compare a few providers, read the Google Business Profile reviews, look at the website for proof that the company is real and nearby, and then message or call. WhatsApp is a normal way to make first contact, including with companies and professionals, so an enquiry route that ignores it can feel oddly formal.
Trust is built through specifics: named people, a visible address, clear prices or at least a clear way of arriving at one, and reviews written in Spanish by people who sound like customers. Large purchases such as property, legal help or private healthcare also involve recommendations from friends and family, which means your marketing is often a way of making yourself easy to recommend as well as easy to find.
The Madrid search and social landscape
Google dominates search, and local intent matters a great deal in a city of Madrid's size. Searches with neighbourhood names, for example by district rather than just the city, behave very differently from generic queries. Instagram and YouTube carry a lot of consumer discovery, LinkedIn matters for B2B and for recruiting, and TikTok is relevant if your audience is younger. For classifieds and second-hand goods, local marketplaces play a role, and property search runs through dedicated portals.
Many Spanish consumers also shop on large general marketplaces, so a retailer has to decide whether to compete there, sell through them, or push customers to its own shop. That choice affects advertising, pricing and margins. I would raise it early in any e-commerce conversation, because it determines how much of your paid traffic should go to your own site.
Sectors that give Madrid its character
Madrid is the seat of many corporate head offices, financial and professional services, public administration, and a large legal, consulting and education sector. It also has tourism, hospitality, real estate and a growing technology and start-up scene. Each has a different problem. Professional firms usually have credibility but weak websites that read like brochures. Hospitality has strong visuals but leaks enquiries between the ad and the booking.
Start-ups often have the opposite issue: a polished product story with no clear way for a first-time visitor to take a next step. For brands preparing campaigns, my usual starting point is the pairing of marketing creatives with performance marketing, so the visuals are made for the channel they will run in and the landing page continues the same message.
What to localise beyond the language
Spanish for Spain is not the same as Spanish for Mexico or Argentina, and a brand that wants Latin American customers needs to decide which Spanish it is writing. Vocabulary, formality and even common product words differ. I do not write final Spanish copy myself; I plan the structure, write briefs and work with a native editor or your in-house team so the wording is natural. Regional languages may matter if your audience is outside Madrid.
Prices should be shown in euros, with tax treatment clear. Spain follows the EU rules on data protection and cookie consent, and consumer protection rules affect promotions, returns and how offers are described. I am not a lawyer, so please treat compliance as something your adviser confirms for your case; my job is to build forms, tracking and consent flows so they can be adjusted when the rules or advice change.
How a four-hour gap actually works
Madrid is behind India by four and a half hours in winter and three and a half in summer, because Spain moves its clocks in late March and late October. Nine in the morning in Madrid is half past one or half past twelve in the afternoon for me. The sensible overlap runs from Madrid morning until mid-afternoon, which sits comfortably inside my working day.
Spanish business life shifts later in the day than many people expect, with long lunches and later evenings, and August is quiet. I schedule calls in Madrid mornings, and work on deliverables in my afternoon and evening so there is something to review when your day starts. Between calls we use shared documents, recorded walkthroughs and a written weekly summary, not constant messages.
A sensible first 30 to 60 days
In the first fortnight I look at what exists: the website, the ad accounts if any, analytics and how enquiries are handled. I agree a single measurable action for the campaign, whether that is a call booked, a form completed or a purchase, and I confirm who approves creative and who owns the language. Many delays come from approval chains, so I try to name them on day one.
The following weeks usually cover the creative brief, the landing page and tracking, then a limited launch with a clear review date. By the end of the second month you should know what the first campaign taught you, what to change and what to repeat. How long it takes depends on the number of languages, the size of your approval group, and whether the website needs work before ads can run.
- Week 1 to 2: audit, goal, owners and language decisions
- Week 3 to 4: creative brief, landing page, measurement
- Week 5 to 6: limited launch and daily checks
- Week 7 to 8: review, adjust, decide what to scale
Mistakes I would help you avoid
The most common mistake is translating an English campaign word for word and calling it localised. The second is sending paid traffic to a generic home page when a Madrid visitor wants to see a specific service, a district or a price. The third is measuring clicks while nobody checks whether the phone calls and WhatsApp messages that follow are any good.
Another is overlooking the calendar. Campaigns around Semana Santa, summer holidays and Christmas behave differently from the rest of the year, and a local festival can change demand in the city for a week. Plan around them rather than discovering them after the budget is spent.
Who this is for, and who it is not
This suits a Madrid-based business, or a foreign brand entering Spain, that wants a clear strategy and someone senior to run it without hiring a full team. It also suits companies that already have Spanish copywriters or translators and need the planning, analytics and campaign discipline around them.
It is not the right fit if you need an agency physically present in your office, a native Spanish copywriter as part of the same person, or in-person events and shoots. International clients pay flat USD pricing, which I confirm in writing before work starts. If you want a first conversation, a strategy session is the easiest way to see whether we suit each other.
